Private Lessons

Your Journey.
Your Pace.

Personalised martial arts and self-defence coaching, built entirely around you.

Whether you're looking to build confidence, learn practical self-defence, improve your fitness or discover something new, our private lessons offer a supportive space to develop at your own pace.

No experience necessary. No pressure to keep up. Just dedicated coaching shaped around your goals.

A truly personal experience

Coaching that starts with you.

No two people arrive at Bamboo with the same goals, experiences or expectations. That's why your training shouldn't follow a one-size-fits-all approach.

From your very first conversation, we'll take the time to understand what you want to achieve, what you're comfortable with, and how you'd like to progress.

Together, we'll create an approach that works for you.

01

Tailored to Your Goals

Whether your focus is self-defence, fitness, confidence or martial arts skills, your sessions are shaped around your priorities.

02

Beginner Friendly

You don't need previous martial arts experience or a particular level of fitness to get started.

03

Learn at Your Pace

Build techniques gradually, with dedicated attention and clear, constructive feedback.

04

Supportive Coaching

Train in a welcoming environment where questions are encouraged and progress is personal.

Bamboo Studios

Your first session

Your first session, step by step.

Starting something new can feel a little daunting. We want your first experience with Bamboo to feel comfortable, enjoyable and entirely focused on you.

  1. 1

    Stage 1

    Getting to Know You

We'll begin with a relaxed conversation about your goals, previous experience and what you'd like to gain from your training. It's also an opportunity to ask questions and tell us anything you'd like your instructor to know.

  2. 2

    Stage 2

    Finding Your Foundations

We'll introduce some fundamental movements and techniques suited to your ability and interests. Depending on your goals, this might include basic martial arts techniques, defensive movements, balance or coordination.

  3. 3

    Stage 3

    Putting It into Practice

Experience some practical, enjoyable training through exercises such as pad work, movement drills or introductory self-defence techniques. Everything will be adapted to your confidence and ability.

  4. 4

    Stage 4

    Your Next Steps

We'll finish by reflecting on what you've enjoyed, answering any questions and discussing what you'd like to work towards. If you'd like to continue, we'll talk about how future sessions could be structured.

This is simply an example of how a first session might flow. Every introductory session is shaped around you: no tests, no pressure, just a chance to try it out.

Meet your instructor

A familiar face from the very first session.

Hi, I'm Archie, the founder of Bamboo Studios.

I believe martial arts should be something that everyone feels welcome to explore, regardless of their experience, confidence or fitness level.

For me, private coaching is about more than teaching techniques. It's about understanding the person in front of me, helping them feel comfortable and celebrating the progress that matters to them.

Whether you're stepping into martial arts for the very first time or looking to develop your existing skills, I'd love to help you discover what you're capable of.

Everything you need to know

Questions, answered.

Do I need any martial arts experience?

Not at all. Many private coaching clients are complete beginners. Your sessions will be adapted to your starting point.

What should I wear?

Anything comfortable that allows you to move freely. There's no need to buy specialist martial arts clothing for your first session.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. Your coaching will be adapted to your current fitness and ability, with the aim of helping you progress comfortably.

Will I have to spar or do contact training?

Not unless it's something suitable that we've discussed and you're comfortable with. Your training will be shaped around your goals and preferences.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are arranged at suitable training facilities, with the location confirmed when organising your booking.

What happens after my first session?

We'll discuss how you found the experience and, if you'd like to continue, explore a training approach suited to your goals and availability.

Enquire

Let's start with a conversation.

What would you most like to achieve?
Have you trained in martial arts before?

No commitment. Just a friendly conversation about your goals.

Every journey begins somewhere.

Whatever your starting point, we'll help you take the first step with confidence.
